NOFI Spill Raider™
Innovation
NOFI Spill Raider 800 Offshore Rapid Response Boom represents an important step forward for customers who demand rapid response, using a minimum of personnel. The system is designed for use in open ocean areas. Only one person is required to launch and to retrieve the boom.
Safety
During development of the NOFI Spill Raider, great emphasis has been placed on safety in deployment and use. Redundancy has been built into the system so that if one functional part fails, the boom can still be operated via a standby system. For instance there are two longitudinal, separate, full-size air chambers along the length of the boom, and the boom will still be able to function without a reduction in freeboard height, even if one of the chambers is punctured.
Design
The NOFI Spill Raider is stored on a reel. Inflation and deflation is controlled from an operator station at the reel. The deployment and retrieval operations each take about 15 minutes for a 300 m boom. The boom is made of heavy duty PU/PVC fabric with high wear resistance, and has a smooth surface to facilitate easy cleaning. The NOFI Spill Raider can be operated at towing or water current speeds of up to 1,2 knots (ref. tests carried out in Ohmsett test tank), which is significantly more that the 0,7 to 1 knots that ordinary oil booms are capable of.
The NOFI Spill Raider has been delivered to customers worldwide.
